Champion and runner-up prediction: how to use the bonus
Beyond predicting match by match, many tournaments let you make a special prediction: who will be champion and who will be runner-up. It's worth valuable bonus points and, used well, it can decide who wins your group. Here's how to make the most of it.
What the global prediction is
On top of each match score, you can make a global prediction: the team you think will lift the trophy (champion) and the one that will lose the final (runner-up). It's a single prediction for the whole tournament.
Why it's worth so much
Getting the champion or runner-up right awards a big bonus, far larger than a single match. Since almost nobody nails both, whoever does usually jumps up the leaderboard. In tight groups, this bonus is often what decides the winner.
⏱️ The global prediction closes on a deadline (usually at the start of the tournament) and, once confirmed, cannot be changed. Think it through before you save it.
How to choose champion and runner-up
- Look at the ranking and form: favourites are favourites for a reason, but check how they arrive, injuries and absences.
- Consider the bracket: a strong team in a tough part of the draw has it harder than an equally good team in an easier one.
- Don't put the same team in both spots: champion and runner-up must be different; spread the risk.
- Balance head and heart: backing your own team is fun, but if you want to win the group, prioritise who has the best real chance.
Common mistakes
The most common mistake is leaving it for later and letting the deadline pass without making it: you miss a huge bonus without even trying for it. The second is choosing purely with your heart. Make it early and with judgement.
In short
The champion and runner-up prediction is one of the most decisive plays in the game. Make it before the deadline, choose wisely, and you could settle your group from day one.
