How the points system works (and how to use it)

Winning your group isn't only about luck: understanding how points are awarded helps you decide where to take risks and where to play it safe. Here's the detail.

The two kinds of correct call

Each match prediction can earn you points in two ways:

Here's the key: getting the result right is much more likely than nailing the exact score. That's why it pays to predict realistic scorelines rather than extravagant ones.

Knockout rounds are worth more

Points increase as the tournament advances. A correct call in the final is worth far more than one in the group stage, because there are fewer matches and each is harder to predict. This means the tournament can flip in the late rounds: whoever is last can still come back by nailing the decisive matches.

The champion and runner-up prediction

It's one of the biggest point swings in the game. Picking the champion awards a significant amount, and the runner-up a bit less. Because it's worth so much, a good global prediction can make up for several weeks of weak match results.

Strategy: take risks or play it safe?

  1. In the group stage, prioritize getting the result right: predict tight, realistic scorelines (1–0, 2–1) instead of unlikely blowouts.
  2. Save the risks for when you're behind: if you're far from the leader, going for exact scores in the knockouts is how you close the gap fast.
  3. Don't neglect the champion prediction: give it real thought, because its weight can decide the group.
  4. Predict every match you can: each match without a prediction is a point you give away.

In short

Get results right consistently, gamble on exact scores when you need to, and treat your champion prediction as a key move. With that mix, you've got everything to fight for first place in your group.
